This glittering bat soared through the twilight sky, guided by the moon, to rest in our showcase.
Exquisitely crafted by hand and inspired by a Belle Epoque era jewel, this bat brooch will incur commentary whenever you decide to wear it.
The brooch is sterling silver, and has been finished with black rhodium, for a gleaming, darkened look. The body of the bat is a large, oval genuine Tahitian pearl and its eyes are glowing genuine rubies. Genuine white sapphires accent the bat's perky ears, and outline its magnificent wings. A collar of black enamel accents the bat's neck.
The wings of the bat are French plique-a-jour enamel. Plique-a-jour is a technique in which enamel (fired glass) is suspended within cells of precious metal. This technique results in a stained glass effect, and is the most difficult and labor intensive of all the enameling techniques. The translucent enamel has a graduated color of blue to clear.
The brooch fastens with a traditional pin stem and catch. There is a fixed bail on the back of the brooch, in case you decide you would rather wear the bat as a pendant.
The bat brooch measures 2 and 5/8 inches from wing tip to wing tip.
How to wear our bat brooch:
On a blue, black or hot pink blazer.
On a wide velvet ribbon, worn as a choker.
