Baroque Natural Pink Sapphire Ring

One of Plante Jewelers' original treasures - designed by Marcel and made especially for us.  The only one of its kind.

It all started decades ago, when a husband-and-wife team of gemstone dealers from Sri Lanka stopped into our store on a whim.  Pierre was entranced by their glittering, extra-special untreated sapphires, and purchased one sapphire each visit.  Today, these fabulous sapphires are extra-rare, as our gemstone dealers have since retired.  

To showcase the vivid sapphire, Marcel created an elaborate ring, featuring platinum and 22 karat yellow gold.  He added a sprinkling of perfectly proportioned diamonds (extra sparkly), to accent the sapphire.  Marcel drew inspiration from the dramatic colors, textures, and details of Baroque art to create flowing garlands of gold captured between platinum rails.  

The cushion-shape pink sapphire is genuine and untreated, with a known origin of Sri Lanka.  It weighs 1.17 carats and has very good clarity and a vivid intense naturally-occurring pink hue. The six earth-mined ideal cut diamonds have a total weight of .06 carats, with GIA F-G/SI1 color/clarity grades.

The ring is a size 7.

A note on unheated sapphires:

95% of all mined sapphires are heated to bring forth their color, something that has been done for thousands of years. An unheated sapphire is very rare because its natural color is so beautiful that it does not need to be enhanced.
