Inspired by art nouveau jewels - this butterfly floats on gossamer wings of translucent French enamel. French enamel is glass, that is built up in many layers and fired until translucent. This butterfly is sterling silver, and features "plique-a-jour" enamel, which is a technique similar to stained glass. The blue, teal and green enamel was applied in between channels of silver, to create a luminous effect. The butterfly's body has been set with a round opal cabochon and glittering, tiny white sapphires.
The butterfly measures 1 5/8 inches wide, and has a fixed, tapered bail. The butterfly comes on a sterling silver cable chain, which can adjust up to 20 inches long, with a sliding bead adjustment and lobster claw clasp. Both the pendant and chain have a rhodium finish, so they will not tarnish.
